Apple Piei by Mediterranean Baby (6 of 7)

Nothing says classic American dessert like homemade apple pie.

It’s just the quintessential crowd pleasing sweet, especially this time of year.  I was traveling back from the Westmoreland Courthouse last week after a hearing and decided to stop at a little farm stand I noticed on my way to Greensburg. It was lovely and lucky for me…it was packed with freshly picked apples.  Immediately, I knew our Sunday family dinner dessert was going to be apple pie!!  In my opinion, the tarter the apple, the better the apple pie!  Enjoy!

Apple Pie

  • 2 pie crusts, unbaked
  • 4 1/2 cups diced tart apples
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp. butter, cut into 4 tabs

Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.

Place 1 pie crust in your pie dish.

In a medium mixing bowl, combine apples, sugar, and cinnamon.

Place the apple mixture on top of the pie crust.

Top with the 4 tabs of butter.

Gently run your finger with a dash of cold water along the rim of your pie crust.

Place the second pie crust on top and use your fingers to press and pinch the top and bottom crusts together.

Using a sharp knife, cut a few slices into the top of your crust so the pie can breathe while baking.

Sprinkle with a bit of white sugar.

Place in the 425 degree oven for 15 minutes, on a baking dish.

Reduce the heat to 350 and continue to bake for 50 minutes until golden brown.
