Last Saturday we entered the Cook Off at the Farm to Table Harvest Festival…and Guess what!?!? We won
Our entry included 3 dishes: Beer Cheese Soup w/Roasted Butternut Squash, Thanksgiving Bites over Fresh Cranberry Sauce, and Harvest Filo Cups w/Rum Reduction and Vanilla Mascarpone Cream.
We would like to say a big Thank You to the organizers at Farm to Table Pittsburgh! It was a real pleasure to meet everyone at the event. Pictured Right: Robert Hagan, President of American HealthCare Group, Inc. with Nicole of Mediterraneanbaby.com
We wanted to highlight a few of the other groups we met at the event: (In no particular order, but they are all living in their passion as am I.)

Grandma Z’s Maple Haus http://www.grandmazsmaplehaus.com/
Grandma Z’s (named after the owner’s Grandma Z) continues the maple tradition of the Zehr family. The Zehr family, located in Copenhagen, New York, has been producing quality maple syrup for four generations. The Zehr family practices sustainable forest management to ensure generations of healthy maple trees. Sugar Maples on the family woodlot are tapped each spring. The sap is then carefully boiled down in a wood fire evaporator. The end result is the purest natural sweetener, maple syrup. The Zehr family maple syrup tradition is continuing in Western Pennsylvania. In 2012, the Zehr family started selling our 100% Pure Maple Syrup and maple related products (think Maple Mustard, Maple BBQ Sauce, Maple Lemonade, Granola) in The Strip District in Pittsburgh, PA. Fast forward a year and they have expanded to four local farmers markets, Farm to Table lunchtime markets, one day festivals, and developed two new products.

Enon Valley Garlic http://www.enonvalleygarlic.com/
They started Enon Valley Garlic 2003. Originally from Mid-Town Manhattan, they decided that the “Green Acres” model first portrayed by Oliver and Lisa Douglas was worth a try. The idea was to have a farm that produced enough to basically feed the residents and provided enough surplus income to make the operation break even. Today they have 90 acres with 11 individuals from 5 families living and working there.
