Our son requested a Monsters University birthday party this year for his 4th birthday and it was such a wonderful theme!
First of all, the colors were bright blue, green, and purple, which were really festive and happy. It was also very easy to combine homemade party ideas and store-bought decorations to help make it authentic.
I used a hot glue gun to attached monster eyes to toothpicks, which I used for appetizers and fruit. They looked so cute and the kids all got a kick out of them.
Of course, we had to have a Monsters University cake, which we purchased from Sam’s Club. It was super easy to order and VERY reasonably priced. I placed the cake on a Monsters University decorated table with the party favors; small Monsters University cups filled with goodies like Monsters glasses, party kazoos, and treats.
My favorite element of the party was a Monsters University pretzel dipping/decorating
station. I used two Hamilton Beach 3 qt. Slow Cookers to melt bright blue and green Wilton candies (purchased from Michaels and Amazon). The Slow Cookers were perfect. They melted the candies in a cinch and looked so festive on the table with their bright Swirl and Chevron patterns. As a bonus, the slow cooker inserts are dishwasher safe, so clean-up was a breeze. I also had bright sprinkles, M&Ms, and candy monster eyes (Wilton also). Adults assisted in dipping the pretzels and then each of the kids got to decorate from there. I had small sheets of parchment paper for each of the kids with their names on them. That way, after they had decorated their pretzels, we could allow them to dry and still know to whom they belonged!
Again, I cannot say enough about how fun this theme was! And I recommend you try a pretzel dipping station for your next kids’ party or play date. It was so easy and the kids had a blast.
