Overnight Trip to NYC

Overnight NYC Mediterranean Baby (19 of 26)New York CIty is a place I love to style watch on the streets and try the latest food trends and culinary classics.

I recently enjoyed an overnight trip to NYC to celebrate my cousin Jen’s 40th birthday.  From the moment I landed at LaGuardia Saturday morning until the moment I took off Sunday morning, I hit the streets running.  Actually, I felt like I was half running, half waddling, but it was a blast.

Overnight NYC Mediterranean Baby (1 of 26)I convinced my Thea Connie and cousin Athena to spend a large portion of the afternoon at Eataly.  In case you haven’t heard of Eataly, the Eataly website says it best… “We cook what we sell, and we sell what we cook. Eataly is an original “marketplace” model inviting consumers to be active participants in an innovative food and beverage experience where they shop, taste and savor high quality traditional Italian food products and beverages along with local produce and artisanal products; a multifunctional marketplace that includes a premier retail center for Italian delicacies and wine, a culinary educational center, and a diverse slate of seven boutique eateries.”  It was fabulous and you simply MUST check it out when you’re in the city.

Overnight NYC Mediterranean Baby (26 of 26)We also got to see Kinky Boots on Broadway, but I must admit, it wasn’t my favorite.  I guess I’m just one for the classics at the theater, too.

In the evening, we headed over to Little Italy, where we enjoyed the San Gennaro Festival.  The streets were packed with food vendors and people lined up to buy fresh cannolis and zeppole.  We dined at Angelo’s on Mulberry Street, in part because of my secret affection for RHONJ, a/k/a/ the Real Housewives of New Jersey :)  Specifically, Therea (one of the twins) and her husband own Angelo’s and I had the BEST stuffed artichoke!  It was full of capers, anchovie, breadcrumbs, etc.  DELICIOUS!

Next time, I vow to be there on a day they’re taping LIVE! with Kelly and Michael :)
