Vasilopita is the traditional Greek New Year Cake, complete with a coin wrapped in foil hidden somewhere in the cake.
On New Years morning, the head of the house cuts a piece of cake for every member of the household, God, and the house itself. Each member of the family chooses a piece of cake, starting with the youngest family member. The person who finds the coin in their piece of cake will have good luck all yeat long!! It’s such a fun tradition and we all love the hunt of finding the lucky coin. As an added bonus, the cake is light, fluffy, and just sweet enough to enjoy for breakfast.
