This summer we visited Ocean City, New Jersey and it surpassed our expectations. What a wonderful beach town! In a nutshell, it is the most family-friendly, well-maintained, lovely seaside vacation spot on the Jersey Shore.
The boardwalk is clean and impeccably kept. Every day, crews were cleaning, painting, and repairing the boardwalk. There is also a lovely, quaint amusement area for little kids with rides including a massive Ferris wheel with beautiful views of the beach and town.
The town of Ocean City is dry, which means your can’t purchase alcohol within the city limits, nor do the local restaurants serve alcohol. (It really makes the boardwalk, town, and beach very family friendly!) That being said, you can drive a few minutes outside of town and easily purchase whatever spirits you like.
We stayed on the North end of the City on Stenton Place, a picturesque street with lovely beach houses that are lined with flowers and sidewalks. Only half a block away from the beach and a block and a half from the boardwalk, it was an ideal location traveling with little kids. Every morning, we would walk to the
boardwalk and grab a coffee and fresh donuts from Browns or Oves.
… We ate out in Margate, New Jersey, only a seven minute drive from our shore house. I highly recommend both Sofia and Catch. Sofia is probably the most lovely Greek restaurant you could imagine. It is modern with an old world feel. No expense was spared in the decor and the food is phenominal; both fresh and perfectly prepared. Catch is stunning as well, much smaller with a fresh color pallate of black, white, aqua blue and vibrant orange. The food was also outstanding. Service at both restaurants was top of the line. We cooked at home a few nights and also ordered in fresh seafood from Spadafora’s and Mike’s. Specifically, we ordered in
fresh steamed crabs, shrimp, and scallops from both locations. Spadafora’s seemed to be a bit more expensive, but the quality of the seafood was excellent. Mike’s was a better bargain and comes with tons of sides, but the crabs were smaller. I would recommend both and it’s much easier to eat at home with the little ones.
Margate is also the home of Lucy the Elephant, a six story elephant, which you may tour. It’s the perfect activity for an overcast day or early evening.
Overall, Ocean City New Jersey is the perfect place for your summer vacation. We absolutely loved it!
